AP Hold Primaries In 22 Constituencies

Speaking at a press conference last week, Kelebeng said they would hold more primaries in September as they are still working on their structures.

“We are going to contest in many constituencies. For now, 22 are ready to go for elections.

Others will follow in September. We will contest in many constituencies and leave out those where there is a candidate who we share values with,” he said.

Kelebeng said as the youth they were happy that their party decided to come up with a quota system to cater for youth, women and marginalised groups.

“The 15% quota shows that we do not want to leave anyone out. The youth have welcomed the move and we will see over 75 young people take part in the primaries,” he said.

Kelebeng is the only youth parliamentary candidate and will be vying for Takatokwane constituency.

On cooperating with other parties, Kelebeng said their position is consistent with that of the mother party that they should only work with those that they share the same values with.

“We as a party continue to explore possible ways of cooperation with other political parties.

However, we will not allow this to distract us from preparing for the 2019 elections in earnest. We continue to sell the AP brand to the general public as an alternative to the BDP,” he said.

On other issues, the former student leader called on President Mokgweetsi Masisi to institute investigations into private tertiary institutions.

Kelebeng said the government spends a lot of money in tertiary institutions while they fail to educate students.

He said there are many irregularities with institutions failing to provide necessities for students to do their work.

Kelebeng said they were happy that Masisi has relieved former spy chief, Isaac Kgosi of his duties as they had wished.

“We are glad that he removed Kgosi. However, we are concerned by reports that the current spy chief Peter Magosi could allow the organisation to do work for Botswana Democratic Party,” he said.
