The BCPYL president, Chillyboy Rakgare said the BCP has not yet agreed on their president Dumelang Saleshando’s name to be in the executive post of the UDC. “We accept the decision by the UDC to have two vice presidents but as the youth league we thought it could be one. The BCP leadership will have to sit down and discuss the name of the person who is suitable for that position,” Rakgare said.

This came after UDC last month announced that their national executive committee (NEC) will be headed by the president who will have two vice presidents and the presidency has been given to the Botswana National Front (BNF) while the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) and BCP shall occupy the two vice presidency positions. The Botswana People’s Party (BPP) had been given chairpersonship.

He continued: “We accept the 17 constituencies but we wish our party could have been given at least one or two constituencies in the South”.

On other issues, Rakgare called upon the University of Botswana (UB) to reopen the institution. “Some of these students do not have relatives in Gaborone and they do not have money to go back home. Their lives are in danger. The school is the one which delayed to submit the students data base to the DTF,” he said.

He however said there is vacancy for the President in Botswana since the current President Ian Khama never wants to address people on crisis bedevilling the country.

He said the issue of failure to pay students allowance does not affect UB alone but all tertiary institutions. “Instead we have a President who wants to talk about issues when he is at their party activity or outside Botswana. I don’t think people should take a person like that very seriously,” he said.
