Poetic Omnibus is a movement founded by Obakeng Kagiso to provide a platform for poetry performances and poetry writing and has to date 12 bonafide members. The group also aims at growing talent in different specs of arts including martial arts.

Kagiso said distinct themes in respective events give poets diversity to express themselves and broaden their scope. In the inaugural event back in December the theme was ‘Festive fever’ followed by ‘Poetry flair’ in January and this month the theme is ‘Power’.

He said ‘Power’ was chosen to enlighten poetic natives about power in its distinctive forms by virtue of learning through the experiences of those in possession of power.

“Alongside the poets who will take turns during the event we have invited some pastors to share the power of the word. We have a wealthy personnel and an individual placed in high authority to share on the unique powers in their possessions,” he said.

He said the events are inclusive of an Open Mic session to allow the audience an opportunity to have an input. Kagiso also said the events are a build up to the national poetry day to be held in October.

“We are hosting the national poetry day here (Francistown) and this is in some form a build up to the big day but it goes beyond. We have received an overwhelming support in the past events and we are greasing the locals for the national poetry event, where we will also be releasing a book.”

He said their inaugural night was full house but they hit a glitch on the second event in January even though both nights were sold out. He found it a challenge when individuals buy tickets and don’t turn up for the event.

“We had it sold out (January event) but the attendance was half of the tickets sales we made and that is a challenge for us. We value the contributions in all forms but for us it is not entirely about the money but growth. It bothers us when people buy tickets and don’t pitch up because they are denying us the ideas that could benefit our growth and the feedback.”
