The host of the Red Carpet Celebrity Night with PP Wa Pimp Birthday Bash and Botswana’s top 40 celebrities, Seagile has explained the criteria he used to draw the lineup of celebrities who are expected to grace the event. The event, which  was the talk of the town lately, is scheduled to take place at My Kind Of Place or MKOP on August 25, 2018 where a flurry of those believed to be A-listers of the local entertainment industry, sports and political circles are expected to rock up for PPwaPimp’s 40th birthday bash.

Amongst those listed as celebrities to rock up are Nijel Amos, Dipsy Selolwane, Kagiso Thutlwe, Mercy Thebe, Bruce Nkgakile, HT Tautona, T.H.A.BO, Vee Mampeezy, Monna O Motona, Ricky Lamar, Apollo Diablo, Lorato Rantau, Touch, Gao Phuti, Girli Tshireletso, Zenzele, Fish Pabalinga, Girlie O DiBody, Leon, Major Rams, Wizards, Mingo Touch, Koncrete, Kast, Tlhomamo Diamond, Taolo Moshaga, DJ Colastraw, DJ Phazz, DJ Lady MB, Kingdom, Obakeng Sengwaketsi, DJ Shaboo and Hapex Guru.

The list has attracted criticism with many questioning the criteria used to draw the top 40 celebrities.

However, host and ‘birthday boy’ Seagile, who has over 25 years’ experience as a promoter told Arts & Culture that the list was drawn from some of his celebrity friends’ circle.  “Regarding the criteria, we selected some of my celebrity friends because as you know it is part of my job to promote celebrities or celebrity management.

“It’s just that we couldn’t do as some of the people expected because others will be engaged on the day.  Some are pledging by appearance, while some of the known celebrities are missing from the lineup because they have been booked already like Dramaboi, Zeus and ATI.  It also depended on their availability,” he explained.  PP said it would be a glitz and glamour lifestyle event where the who’s who of Botswana would be scrutinised and be roasted on the night “As you know, I’ll be turning 40, so that’s where the concept of this top 40 celebrities comes from “ Seagile explained.

Seagile said that this is the first event of its kind in the country as they are mostly popular in other countries such as South Africa and the United States of America, where Hollywood stars hog the limelight everyday.

“It’s a concept from those countries.

As you can see, we have celebrities from sport, music, models and politics across the social divide. It’s another way of promoting celebrity status in Botswana,” he added.  He said that although this is a pilot project, it promises to be a successful event judging by the reaction on social media platforms.  He indicated that if it succeeds, the event would be held annually.  The event will also feature performances by some music artists on the lineup.  The entrance fee for the event is P100.
