Tempers Flare At Snooker Meeting

When the meeting started at Woodland Hotel, BBC president, Terrence Tiroyakgosi said they had taken a last minute decision to change the meeting from an Annual General Meeting (AGM) to a Special General Meeting (SGM).
“We have decided to change this meeting into an SGM because most of our affiliates are not in good standing. “They have not registered with the Registrar of Societies and they have not paid subscription to us. We have informed Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) about this state of affairs and they advised us to proceed with an SGM,” Tiroyakgosi said.
He explained that this meant there would not be input from the floor. He advised the members to sort out their affiliation first before a new date of an AGM could be set.
After an address by the president, it was the beginning of an exchange by the members and the executive committee, especially from the secretary general, Gofaone Kebualemang who was the director of proceedings. “You cannot call us for an AGM then you tell us that this is an SGM. We came here for an AGM and we want to have issues addressed. You cannot expect us to just sit here and not have an input in the proceedings,” Onkokame Letamma hissed. He said the SGM was part of the plan to block the members from asking questions. Letamma said even in the invitation letter, they were informed that the executive would not allow questions from the floor.
He criticised Kebualemang for being the director of proceedings because he was conflicted and he would do everything in his power to defend the executive committee. Another speaker, Oageng Nguka said he travelled from Letlhakane for an AGM and was surprised to learn that it was an SGM. “What would I tell people back home because they expected information from the AGM when I get back,” he said.
Marang Morolong said it was unfortunate that he had to quit as the BBC spokesperson.
“I resigned because every time when I proposed for activities my ideas were rejected. I travelled across the country canvassing for members, but all my hard work did not bear fruit,” he said.
Morolong said since the executive was voted into office two years ago, it failed to have activities. He said the only activity that was held was when they were still an interim committee.
He said the executive committee lost the trust of the members and they should work hard to regain it.But that did not go well with Tiroyakgosi as he accused Morolong of failing in his role.
