After thumping Gaborone United 3-1 the previous weekend, Sharps came into the game brimming with confidence whilst Chiefs were looking for their first win after playing to a 3-3 draw with Extension Gunners in their previous game.

It took nine minutes for Sharps to announce their intentions as Gift Maworere’s header sailed over the bar.

Four minutes later, Chiefs had their first attempt at goal with Unobatsha Mbaiwa’s centred ball, targeted to Phenyo Molefhe but Thabiso Mathe was quick off the blocks as he calmly collected.

On the 24th minute, Onalenna Molelekwa nearly scored as his deflected shot left Mathe motionless, but missed the target.

Molefhe missed a glaring chance at goal as he attempted Bakang Leshona’s cross with a half volley but shot over the bar from just inside the box on the 36th minute.

Five minutes to the break, Monageng Thaele centred the ball for Letlhogonolo Chenjela who was denied by Neo Kenalemang with an unorthodox save as his legs made the block. The two sides went into the break level at 0-0.

The two sides got the second half on a low note as they failed to shoot at goal in the first 10 minutes.

Just two minutes after the hour mark, Khumoetsile Kufingwa scored as he looped the ball over Kenalemang to make it 1-0 in favour of Sharps.

Magosi tried to come back into the game, but Sharps’ defence stood firm.

The team was forced to  substitute Molefe who limped out and was replaced by Mmili Makwekwe.

Sharps then doubled their lead in the 83rd minute as Maworere curled his free kick to the top corner leaving Kenalemang motionless.

Four minutes later, substitute Allen Ndodole beat Kenalemang to the bottom corner to make it 3-0 against his former side.“I’m very much impressed with how the team played. Though we are playing good football at this time, I think it’s too early into the league.

“We are just taking it a game at a time, so we are happy and we hope to build on this win,” Sharps’ interim coach, Wrist Mmusi said after the game.

His counterpart at Chiefs, also on a caretaker basis, Zaaid Jalal bemoaned lack of experience in the squad.

“We have a young squad. The players do not have league experience. We are waiting on the foreign players’ permits but I think we would be okay,” he said.
