As part of the partnership, CENE Media customers who have purchased any of the turbo packages for their home or business will receive free bonus Wi-Fi Internet when they connect to Botswana hotspots.

Botswana Hotspots is an initiative by BoFiNet aimed at stimulating Internet usage and expanding broadband network in the country.

The scheme, which took four months to be put in place, can be accessed in locations of Botswana Hotspots which include all the major malls in Gaborone such as Airport Junction Mall, Main Mall, Game City, Riverwalk, Rail Park, all the three international airports in Gaborone, Francistown and Maun, Princess Marina and Palapye hospitals, the CBD and government enclave areas in Gaborone.

According to CENE media CEO Niall Downey, this project, shows that when government and private sectors work closely, they can bring innovative services to the market quickly and thus enhance Batswana’s standard of living.

“The engineers have encountered many obstacles to bring this to market, but through hard work and innovative thinking they have succeeded against the odds. This clearly demonstrates a strong intellectual capacity in the local market within the ICT sector and paints a positive picture for the future of this sector in Botswana,” he said.

According to Downey, all the customers have to log onto the menu page and enter their CENE media password, which eliminates the need to look for a shop and purchase vouchers.

He said the menu page is user friendly and CENE Media customers can now enjoy a fast free Internet service at all these hotspots.

“The system is simple, convenient, saves time and money. The Internet speeds will be controlled by CENE Media and will mirror the package the customer has purchased for their business or home,” he said.

“This Internet service for Botswana hotspots is a first, it allows an independent ISP provider to sell their services directly on Botswana Hotspots infrastructure. This innovative, customer focused approach extends CENE media’s retail footprint to 30 additional locations naturally.”

In addition, Downey said this service would also help Botswana hotspots add more customers to their infrastructure and help them increase their customer numbers and revenues. This is synergetic relationship with both parties benefiting in getting this service to market.
