Kebonang Loses Matsheka

This was evident as over 4,000 young and old party members came to cast their votes at the constituency.
The election for the BDP parliamentary candidate was contested by Matsheka who garnered 1,376 votes, the incumbent Lobatse legislator Kebonang with 1,073 votes, Kamal Jacobs with 1,219 votes, Lone Bome who got 66 votes, Patrick Kebailele with 218 and Ahmed Shabeer Ishmail with 317 votes cast.
The Lobatse primaries showed that members wanted change, as most aspiring council candidates are new with other current councillors having lost. Those who had won could not help but celebrate others’ loss.
However, chief election officer, Ame Mokoba has warned that stern action would be taken on whoever is caught ‘celebrating’. “Every candidate should talk to his or her supporters because action would be taken on candidates. This election is amongst BDP members and celebration is not allowed. We need each other going forward, especially in 2019,” he said.
Surprisingly only three candidates who lost elections came to witness the final verification as a majority did not bother to show up. Only Mariam Kenosi, who was contesting for the Thema Motswedi ward council seat, indicated her protest.
“I am not accepting the results because people have been campaigning without hiding by the polling stations and some were openly rewarding people to vote for them,” she said.
