According to BLLAHWU secretary general Ketlhalefile Motshegwa, the team has been to Tsabong, Mabutsane, Hukuntsi, Charleshill, Gantsi, Gumare and Maun.

He explained that the purpose of the tour was to disseminate latest information to structures pertaining to labour relations matters, get feedback and suggestions from members. It was also meant to revive and support structures of the Union being localities, branch executive committees and inspire shop stewards

Motshegwa said the meetings were successful as members attended in large numbers.

He explained that following the tour they will conduct training of shop stewards to enhance capacity building so that they are able to executive their mandate in representing members in grievances and disputes, mobilising and organising in the shop floor and communicating Union programmes and benefits to members.

He added that another set of training would be on women leaders where their leadership credentials will be nurtured to enable them to progress within leadership structures of the Union and as well for them to do well once they assume such responsibility.

Motshegwa said BLLAHWU remain disciplined to the course of working class agenda in reference to protection, advancement of workers rights and conditions of service.

“It is the culture of the Union to remain loyal to the struggle and needs of members hence why the Union is not compromising in its mandate to workers and societal broader political economy,” he said.

Motshegwa said the Union is concerned with the worsening conditions of service and welfare of workers in Botswana.  He noted that workers in Botswana have been completely neglected, though they are creators of wealth, they get sidelined and forgotten when it comes to distribution of such wealth.

He said Botswana is prevalent with instances of the working poor, who even though they are employed, they fall within the poverty bracket due to their low wages and welfare status.  He challenged the government, as matter of urgency, to heed a call for the improvement of welfare of workers for national prosperity.
