The councillors took the decision after they bitterly lost party primary elections two months back.  The two councillors, Kgabo Mabotseng of Magopane ward and Lawrence Kalaote of Mothubakwane ward, lost to Ben Rantuana and Joseph Mosomane respectively.

“I have received two letters from former BCP councillors Mabotseng and Kalaote, who indicated that they are now independent candidates,” SDEC council chairperson, Phenyo Segokgo said.

Recently in an interview Mabotseng had indicated that he did not accept the results and would decide whether to appeal or not.  He confirmed that they have resigned from the party and refused to state their reasons.

Mmegi has learnt that the two councillors have been holding consultative meetings with their voters before taking their decision.

The two councillors were seeking a third term at SEDC.

The BCP currently has five councillors in the SDEC.

Efforts to get a comment from the BCP office were unsuccessful as the spokesperson, Dithapelo Keorapetse promised to call back after confirming the matter, but never did.
