New arrivals, Jerome Ramatlhakwana and Tendai Nyamadzawo maintained their good form and grabbed two goals each with the other goal coming from attacking midfielder, Dirang Moloi.
Chiefs, who have been struggling upfront since the beginning of the season, finally managed to register Ramatlhakwana and Nyamadzawo in January.
They have since scored four goals each already. Chiefs took the lead in the 28th minute following a well-taken corner kick by Moloi. Ramatlhakwana flicked the ball before Nyamadzawo tapped home. A minute later, Ramatlhwakwana nearly made it two after another good delivery from Moloi into the box. Nico at the time did not have any answers and failed to make any threatening moves.
In the last minute of the first half, Ramatlhakwana beat a Nico United defender on the right and cut inside before he slashed the ball past the goalkeeper, Karabo Gaolebale to give Chiefs a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime.
Twenty minutes into the second half, Lesego Galenamotlhale won the ball in midfield and pushed forward before he released Moloi who calmly slotted home. Nyamadzawo completed his brace with a good header seven minutes later connecting a perfect cross from new Namibian signing, Absalom Limbondi. Ramatlhakwana put the final nail on Nico’s coffin with five minutes remaining leaving the Selebi-Phikwe side in serious danger of relegation. Nico have lost a number of key players after the collapse of the BCL Mine last year.
“I think we lacked discipline at the back. We also gave Chiefs too much room in the midfield and they killed us from there,” Nico United coach, Dean Mwiinde said after the game. Chiefs coach, Bongani Mafu was happy with the performance of his charges but added that they should not be carried away by the result as they have a tricky encounter against BDF XI in the next match.
