GU came into the game sitting on minus two points after being docked three points mid-week while Gunners were looking to extend their unbeaten run after collecting four points in the first two games. It was the visitors who opened the scores in the first three minutes when Kenanao Ketholetsile on counter attack, laid for Ogomoditse Sitang. The latter beat the keeper to the top corner with his second of the season on the third minute.

Three minutes later, Sitang doubled his side’s lead as he capitalised poor marking in the box with a header from the corner kick. GU’s first chance at goal came on the 19th minute with Jackie Mothatego shooting from outside the box, but his effort was saved by Katlego Mbise.

Gunners were forced to make a substitution as Botshelo Mafoko limped out with an injury, only to be replaced by Ofentse Mmipi as Gunners continued to pile pressure in the Reds. GU once again failed to pull one back, as Thato Bolweleng headed wide from a corner kick on the 33rd minute.

Moyagoleele tried to pull one back, but were unable to penetrate the Gunners’ defence as the first half ended with Mapantsola leading 2-0. At the start of the second half, GU looked to have been in for goal but Dirang Moloi shot wide. GU were awarded a penalty after Moloi was brought down in the box. Obonwe Maome stepped up and sent Mbise the wrong way to reduce the deficit on the 53rd minute.  More problems were in store for Moyagoleele, were a man down as Gaopatwe Seosenyeng was booked for the second time for a jersey pull on Kabelano Mooketsane on the hour mark. Mooketsane five minutes later missed a chance to extend his side’s lead as he shot wide.

The Reds continued to push for an equaliser but failed to convert the chances. With five minutes to time, substitute Baokeditswe Talane found himself in a good space but failed to beat Goitseone Phoko with the keeper making a good save.  The defeat leaves GU at the bottom of the log as they are yet to collect maximum points in this season.

“Another good performance from the boys. We gave those who came to watch the match their money’s worth. We played very well, a very well deserved win. We gave it all today,” Gunners’ coach, Enosi Mmesi said after the game.
