Performances started late in the evening and it was newcomer, Motlha who soothed the revellers with some of the songs from his new project. Although known for his hit song ‘mmamotse’ people loved and appreciated the young man’s work and he loved his craft as well. By the time he performed people’s favourite some sections of the crowd were already on their feet. Motlha is not new to live performances and his One Night With Motlha show helped to push his profile, and to deliver a live performance.

While Samantha Mogwe and Mpho Sebina dished their best on stage it was Sereetsi & The Natives who brought the house down. Sereetsi & The Natives have been on the GIMC stage before, having performed with Jonathan Butler in the past. This time the folklore group had so much to share with their hot new album ‘motoko’ still fresh. People sang along as the ‘robete’ hitmakers showed the prowess of the four strings guitar.  The band did justice to their performance by performing songs like ‘mpompela’ and ‘mpopi’.

Then it was the moment everyone had been waiting for, as the American singer songwriter, Musiq Soul Child arrived on stage and that’s when the revellers took out their smartphones.

Some had been saving their battery life just to capture this rare moment. Musiq Soul Child’s voice brought everyone together and some could not help but watch the talented singer deliver his magic on stage. People who knew his songs, sang along to the lyrics.

While maybe he is used to performing to a larger crowd than the one he had before him, Musiq Soul Child did his best to interact with his fans. He performed some of his songs like ‘teach me how to love’ and ‘buddy’. His music took people back to the time when R&B was popular in the mainstream music. While it’s not easy these days to see a live performance of that magnitude, the presence of the American singer took the event to a higher level one can wonder what the organisers will do next year to match or even beat this. Other events will follow this week and GIMC experience has already began.
