The suspect in the case, Simon Badisa Kgowe 38, allegedly murdered Elizabeth Bonolo Kerekang, by cutting her head off at Block 3 location in Gaborone on July 30, 2018, and dumped her headless body at Maratanang ward in Tlokweng.

As they continue to hit dead ends in search of Kerekang’s decapitated head, the police handed her headless body to the family, and her body was laid to rest in Gaborone more that a month ago.

To date, the police are still searching for Kerekang’s head.

Some furious members of the community fought their way into the courtroom, and quickly filled it up. Others, including journalists were literally sitting on the floor as the courtroom was full beyond capacity.

Appearing before Magistrate Batho Kgerethwa, prosecution stated that investigations into the matter are almost complete as they have in possession the evidence they have been looking for.

“We have in possession exhibits that we have been fearing the accused person can temper with and as such we do not oppose the accused person to be granted bail,” stated prosecution.

Kgerethwa went on to grant Kgowe bail on condition that he should not interfere with witnesses on the case.

He was ordered to pay the sum of P5, 000 in order to be granted bail as well as to bring two sureties that will bind themselves with P5, 000 each.

As court adjourned, members of the community walked away frustrated and blasted Botswana’s criminal justice system.

However, Kgowe is still remanded in custody as he has another case before Broadhurst Magistrates Court, in which he was recently found guilty of unlawful possession of drugs. He will appear in court tomorrow for mitigation.
