Desire is well known across comedy circles having also performed in different settings alongside South African comedians such as Tol Ass Mo, Pule, Franco, Zimbabwe’s Charles Manase and locals Dignash and Ribcracker amongst others. The Francistown-based comedian had taken a backseat from comedy since 2014.

Desire who cut a funny figure himself said being laid off worked perfectly for him.  He said that he returns with a fresh package of jokes that will surely leave his audience in stitches.

“Comedians need a break sometimes so that you refresh and you don’t become predictable and I would say taking a low profile for sometime worked out nicely for me.  I am coming back a fresh package and my audience is definitely going to ‘laugh at me’,” he chuckled.

“I haven’t been performing nationally, but I have been available at small scale events where I was measuring my performances and people have responded well to my new package.  I am happy and I am ready to go out, hit big events and release my calling.”

Desire said the challenge has been organising big comedy shows in the northern part of the country, something he said he is channelling his energies to change.  He said he plans to contribute his experience in helping out upcoming comedians.

“Comedy lives here (North), our comedians have dominated the Presidential competitions, but afterwards they lack a platform to grow their talent, we have not done enough to be creative and organise ourselves like our counterparts do in the South.”

“It is high time now that we stand up and vigorously enter boardrooms and make a change, I have earned a lot from comedy and I believe it can also sustain a lot of other talented unemployed youths.”

At the Valentine’s Day comedy night at Diggers Inn, Desire will perform alongside other funny people, Augustus Philemon a.k.a Aromat, Spear Maruza, stage name Nkapole, Godknows Bhova, Morwa Makanje and Kabo Keitheng who was the champion comedian at the 2012 Presidential Competitions.
