The players reportedly expected their salaries last week but the management failed to fulfil their promises. “Yes, it is true there was a delay in paying the players. This was due to some challenges, but we held a meeting on Tuesday. We have since managed to deal with those challenges and the players will receive their January salaries today (Wednesday),” club spokesperson, Ernest Mosedame told Mmegi Sport yesterday. He said although they have P2 million sponsorship deal for this season from Mobicel and ZAC Construction, it is not enough to cover all the holes. “We are also not making enough through gate takings because people no longer attend matches in large numbers. We however continue to look for more sponsors and believe me, we have our players’ welfare at heart. If we can manage to source another sponsorship on top of these two, then we can manage to overcome such challenges,” he said.

Nicholas Zakhem, after his departure from GU as an investor, returned as a sponsor. He left after the internal squabbles that rocked the club. Since his departure, the club has struggled financially and lost several key players in the process. Mosedame also confirmed yesterday the departure of their welfare manager, Ace Ruele although he refused to divulge the reasons for his exit. “We have agreed as the two parties not to reveal the reasons for his departure. We parted ways amicably following the meeting held on Tuesday,” he said.
