Mahalapye man kills brother

According to the Mahalapye police findings, the two had left together the previous evening for a night out of drinking.  When they returned to their homestead in Mahalapye West in the morning, a quarrel allegedly ensued and they fought.

The younger brother reportedly hit his brother with a rake and in response; the elder brother allegedly stabbed him with a sharp object.  Officer Commanding senior superintendent Modisaotsile Bonang of Mahalapye police said when they reached the crime scene they found the younger sibling unconscious.

He said the victim was rushed to Mahalapye District Hospital where he was certified dead upon arrival.  “We have arrested the older brother and it is a sad situation for the family as they mourn one brother, while the other is remanded in custody for murder,” he said.

Bonang said the murder was the second they recorded the same day and a number of other cases of grievous bodily harm, unlawful wounding and assault common that are increasing in the area.

He said in another murder incident, they received a report on September 2 that of a 30-year-old man of Boseja ward found lifeless at his house in Mahalapye.

He said they found the victim had multiple stab wounds on the chest and on the head. He was taken to Mahalapye Hospital where he was certified dead. He said acting on a tip-off they have arrested a 25-year-old man of the same ward linked with the murder to assist them with investigations.

“The investigations are still at preliminary stages, but we have a suspect helping us with the investigations.  Besides these two murder cases, we are recording an alarming number of grievous bodily harm incidents that could easily contribute to an increased number of fatalities in this area,” he said, pointing out that they have a crime combating team called Matshwane out in Mahalapye to bring order in the village.
