Moroka appointed Judge President of Francistown High Court

According to a savingram dated August 31, 2018, addressed to all legal practitioners, Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Attorney General (AG), state prisons and members of the public, Moroka’s new appointment commenced on September 3.
As a result of Moroka’s appointment, he will now move from Court Room 4 to Court Room 5, according to the savingram placed at various notice boards and strategic points within the Francistown High Court building.
The Court Room Clerk, Lenna Rentse signed the savingram.
As a result of his promotion, Moroka will now occupy Court Room 5, which was previously occupied by Justice Zibani Makhwade who was also recently promoted to the position of Judge of the Court of Appeal (CoA).
Moroka obtained his undergraduate degree in Law (LLB) from the University of Botswana (UB) before proceeding to the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa where he graduated with a Masters Degree in Law (LLM).
Before his appointment to the High Court bench, Moroka occupied various positions within the Department of Administrative of Justice (AoJ).
Lawyers canvassed by Mmegionline within the public and private practice describe Moroka as a colossal legal luminary who will discharge his new duties with aplomb without fear or favour.
Said one lawyer from the DPP about Moroka: “Justice Moroka is one of the few judges in the country who are progressive. He is someone who is destined to succeed within the structures of the AoJ and I would not be surprised if he is one day appointed as the Chief Justice (CJ) in future”.
A private attorney echoed sentiments of his colleague from the DPP about Moroka: “Justice Moroka is a progressive judge. Unlike some of his colleagues from the bench, he knows that the law is not a monument and as such, he sometimes hands out judgements, which I think some of his conservative colleagues will dare not give. His appointment is long overdue. I wish him well in his future endeavours”.
