Prison escapee dies in hospital

Gerald Estate station commander, Edward Leposo said yesterday,  Ndlovu died at Nyangabgwe last week Thursday where he was hospitalised after his arrest.

Ndlovu bolted out from the slammer together with 14 of his countrymen and three Batswana recently. Eight of the escapees have been rearrested.

“Under the circumstances, the deceased will be repatriated to his home country for burial once the process to repatriate his body is complete,” Leposo said.

“He had not yet been found guilty of any offence here hence he will be returned to his home country.

We don’t know what he succumbed to because he was in the hands of the prison authorities. We would, however, have to establish what he died from before he is repatriated to Zimbabwe.”

Apart from Ndlovu, police have so far managed to arrest Mlindeni Moyo, Mthokodzisi Sibanda, Sicelo Sibanda, Goodwin Mapunganyika, Rowland Moyo and Gaomodimo Molosiwa. Molosiwa, was arrested last month in Aerodrome location, where another man, Newton James allegedly gave him refuge from the law.

The police allege that James has a robbery case that he and Molosiwa committed together.

James was released on bail in December last year in relation to the matter, but landed in hot soup again after police received a tip-off that he was allegedly harbouring Molosiwa.

James has since been slapped with a charge of harbouring a fugitive and police have successfully applied for his bail to be revoked.

Other jail breakers are facing serious charges including murder and armed robbery.
