N-East, F/town districts to host poverty eradication exposition

The joint project will be held from September 3-6 under the theme, ‘Public, Private Partnership for poverty free generation’.
In an interview with Mmegionline, the Francistown and North-East District poverty eradication coordinator Louis Mlilo said that the exposition would attract over 200 exhibitors from the two districts.
He said the main purpose of the exposition is to bring poverty eradication beneficiaries together so that they can share market skills and create linkages between themselves.
Mlilo further said that during the three-day period, the exhibitors would be able to sell their products to multitudes that are expected to grace the event.
“We also want to expose the beneficiaries to procurement officers in different entities in order to develop cooperation between public and private institutions which in the long run will boost their sales margin,” he said.
Mlilo said that the beneficiaries are going to showcase products from different sectors such as animal and crop production and forestry.
He added that the department of social and community development would also showcase fashion design and upholstery products.
Mlilo expects this exposition to be different from the previous one because the beneficiaries have gained experience as compared to last year and are expected to showcase quality products.
He indicated that only successful beneficiaries were given top priority when selecting the over 200 exhibitors.
Mlilo said that of 1,180 people who applied to be assisted under the poverty eradication programme this year, 991 were provided with all the equipment they needed to start their projects while 189 beneficiaries will be given their remaining equipment in due course.
At the north-east district, Mlilo revealed that out of the 1,577 who met the requirements of being funded, 1,152 have being given all their products to kick start their projects while the remaining 425 will be provided with their equipment in due course.
