The young man whose album is mainly based on his own life experience said his seven-track album is telling a story about his personal life and things happening around him.

“Chilume is a song dedicated to the orphans.  It is a true-life story.  Through this song I share my personal experience with my fans out there about the obstructions I have been through. I have been through a rough childhood. I lost my mother when I was still a child. I was left with my grandmother, her children and my cousins, who ill-treated me,” he said sadly of the title track to the album.

The 22-year-old Mbaqanga singer said after his mother’s death he became the black sheep of the family. He said he was abused.

“I was made to do all the house chores alone when my cousins played. I would sometimes go to bed on an empty stomach. I was sometimes made to sleep outside in the cold on rainy days,” he narrated.

Chilume said he found peace after his grandmother and uncles kicked him out of their yard.  Even though he has not seen his grandparents in 12 years, the young man said through the hardships he encountered he learnt to survive. He said he gave his life to God and looked for help from people. Fortunately, a man called Later Matubakwe from his home village in Mogapi and others helped him.

“Matubakwe has always been my pillar of strength.  I would like to encourage orphans not to give up in life.  They must ask for help.  I would also urge the general public and companies to assist me where they can because I am in serious financial crisis,” he said.  That album has other songs like Bot50, Tsa Baikepi, Mmapaseka, Malope, SMS and Intro. Bot50 is a song that celebrated the country’s golden jubilee and tells of national history. Tsa Baikepi talks about fake pastors and prophets who use the name of God for their shady desires and deeds while in Mmapaseka is where the young man is mainly focused on children. In this song, Chilume asks adults to stop dating children old enough to be their own. It also advises young people to stop dating older people.

In Malope, he talks about those who do not want to see others succeed in life.  Due to jealousy, the song says a lot of people lose their jobs.

SMS is a love song that talks about the danger of reading a partner’s messages. It says many partners had in one way or another lost their life possibly due to SMSes.

Chilume was released on December at Carbido Productions famed as Mahempe. The young man wrote all his songs.

“Matubukwe who owns Pelican Moving Company helped me record this album. When I approached him about my dreams he listened and made sure they come true,” he said.
