The school publicist, Alex Nkokonyane said there will be a prize-giving ceremony on on the day, and objectives of the celebration includes celebrating the school’s rich history, rewarding academic excellence in the form of prizes, acknowledging the participation of all former students and fostering and bolstering long working relationship with all stakeholders.

“Preparations have been, and are underway to make this day a great success. Some of the preparations are; Career Fair named ‘My Career, My Future’ which was spearheaded by Botswana Prisons Service on the August 16, 2018, Sponsored Litter Picking led by Sani Care on August 18. 2018 and fundraising Dinner sponsored by Duma FM on August 25, 2018,” he said.

For his part, the school head, Lapologang Kolagano explained even though his school was not performing well in the past years, they had strategies in place to address the challenges that contribute to the school’s poor performances.

Kolagano said the comparison of input and output over the past 10 years show that the school was not doing well academic.  He pointed out that had been a serious concern for the school and the community.

He said amongst the challenges is student indiscipline and bullying of other students and teachers; teachers who do not perform to expected levels; parents who did not give the expected support to their children’s learning by not attending meetings and  not coming to school when invited to come and collect academic termly reports; shortage of water leading at times to classes being dismissed early; students who fail to complete their coursework projects leading to them having X grading in some of their subjects; and students who have an attitude of saying a subject is not amongst their best six therefore relaxing in other subjects and ending up not writing examinations for some.

He said their strategies to redeem that situation includedcollaboration where they open doors for various stakeholders and partners which help motivate the students and bring parents closer to the school, implementation of pastoral policy that allowed them to divide the bigger school into smaller manageable mini schools  and helps them supervise their own house classes and run their examinations and tests at house level, motivational and career talks  where they invite their partners and stakeholders to give talks to students and bootcamps that enhances character building amongst students.

The head teacher however noted that the school had notable achievements both in athletics and ball sports games.

He said team Kgari Sechele has always done well from sub zonal level through to the national level ,adding that their students represented the country in international games where they played against countries like Lesotho, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Mauritius.
