Moremi quits UDC

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Gladys Kokorwe announced Moremi’s resignation yesterday during her opening remarks of the 2017/18 budget speech.

Kokorwe informed the House that she received a notice of the resignation of Moremi from the UDC. The announcement was made in the context of seating changes as MPs sit according to their party affiliation.

Yesterday, UDC spokesperson Moeti Mohwasa told Mmegi that he could not comment further on Moremi’s resignation because as the UDC they had not yet been officially informed about it.

Back in 2012 it was once reported that Moremi had applied to be re-admitted into the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and this fuels speculation that he could, this time, be truly tracing his steps back to the ruling party.

In 2011, Moremi quit BDP to join Botswana Movement for Democracy after being an independent MP for some months. Recently, it was reported that the MP had taken ill and was not attending Parliament due to ill-health.

Late last year, Moremi dropped a bombshell through announcing his plan to quit politics before the 2019 general elections.

Last month he posted on Facebook under the account with a fictious name called Marco Steve saying, 'Resigning from the UDC is termed 'depression'.. I am not a gangster, never will'.

He later posted this daring message to the two leaders of the UDC, 'I am not owned by anybody, Ndaba Gaolathe or Duma Boko, try me...'

Interestingly Moremi arrived at parliament yesterday during the Budget Speech presentation wearing a Madiba-like navy blue shirt printed with white elephants silhouettes as well as a matching royal blue ascot tie. Royal blue was announced as the new brand colour of the united UDC.
