“It is true we have charged two men with unlawful wounding and they will appear before (the Jwaneng) Magistrate’s Court when investigations are over. Investigations on the matter are ongoing. We were told there were differences, which led to arguments and then fights. We are aware of one person who was stabbed with a sharp object on the hand,” Mabutsane Police Station Commander, Superintendent Keitshokile Kebodiretswe said.

He said there was no damage to property during the incident.

“There are no windows and door that were damaged during that incident. We are shocked to learn from Facebook that windows and doors were damaged. That is not true because we were with the school management together with community leaders and area MP at the school. The school head could have reported the damage and we inspected the building together.”

The BNF was holding its primary election rerun in the ward, which was supposed to determine the winner of the primary elections for both a parliamentary candidate and council seat for Khakhea. Former Jwaneng Mayor Tsietsi Oodira-Kwenje and Celsius Rande are challenging Shawn Nthaile.

According to sources, there was exchange of blows in Khakhea on Saturday during counting of ballots, which led to the parliamentary election being withheld. It is said party members attacked each other as they disagreed on the number of votes recorded. A councillor from Jwaneng is said to have then stabbed one of the party members during a scuffle.

The initial polls were held on August 18, 2018 and election officers stopped the counting of Khakhea ward due to some irregularities. Sources allege that some people voted multiple times in the same ward.
