Botswana, Zimbabwe to meet over cattle incursion

This was revealed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Gaimelwe Goitsemang, in answer to a question from the Tati East MP Samson Guma Moyo, who wanted to know why those cattle were not shot while entering the country when appearing before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
“What action has your Ministry taken since this matter is urgent? Do your really understand how people living in that area would be affected? Were those cattle not supposed to be shot? Don’t tell me you are yet to call those officials,” Moyo wondered.
In response, Goitsemang told PAC that he could not predict what would happen with those cattle that had crossed into Botswana since they are yet to meet with Zimbabwe officials.
“We will talk to our counterpart on how the issue could be addressed. The issue will be addressed urgently. Normally the two countries do talk when this kind of issue arise,” he said.
Mmegi has learnt that shot to kill stray cattle policy is still being discussed by both governments.
