Furious: Moswaane

Some BDP members in the constituency have written a letter to the leadership claiming possible election fraud, alleged to be sponsored by the outspoken legislator.

But the MP believes the move is fuelled by political expediency.

“The party structures in Francistown West are dysfunctional and in a state of disrepair. This is because the MP has domesticated the party, restricted party functionaries to friends, family and cronies who are flagrantly violating the constitution of the party willy-nilly,” part of the petition submitted to the party secretariat this week reads.

The petition letter further reads: “The MP fearing renewed challenge within the constituency and possible primary election loss has resorted to manipulating the registration process, by instructing the branch to issue registration books only to cell secretaries sympathetic to his hideous cause”.

The petitioners are reportedly affiliated to Tebogo Toteng who is said to be interested in contesting for the primaries in the constituency.  But Toteng has distanced himself from the petition. The chief petitioner is Otto Masogo who also refused to comment.

“Most of the things that have been said about me by the petitioners have no substance.  I will demand a formal public apology from those who I believe have defamed me. If they do not issue a public apology I will definitely sue them,” Moswaane said yesterday in an interview.

He said that those who want to challenge him at the party primaries next year have spoken ill about him in recent months as a way of enhancing their chances at the elections.

“I accept criticism but I do not want my name to be dragged in the mud for nothing.  It is very frustrating for people to defame you for personal gain. I have not defamed anyone who want to challenge me at the primaries. If I have done that to any of them let them bring proof,” he said.

This week some youth also accused Moswaane of sabotaging them in various party activities because they are not affiliated to his faction.  Moswaane says that he will demand an apology and possibly sue the youth who were quoted in the media.

“I suspect that the youth are being used by those who want to challenge me at the primaries,” he said.

A few months ago Tatitown councillor, Gaethuse Ramolotsana threatened to quit the ruling party citing his poor relationship with Moswaane.

Ramolotsana even accused Moswaane of discrediting him at a Kgotla meeting he (Moswaane) held at Tatitown.  Moswaane denied wrongdoing, but later apologised to Ramolotsana during a political rally.

Ramolotsana is now among Francistown West councillors said to be backing Toteng.

A few months ago in a tape leaked to the media, Raoboy Mpuang who is also reportedly vying for the BDP Francistown West constituency primaries labelled Moswaane useless, a move which the latter said was fuelled by political expediency.
