Hip-Hop community, GIMC sixth edition mourn Dice, Steez

The announcement was made at Dice’s memorial service on Tuesday at Tsholofelo Community Hall in Gaborone where rappers, family, friends and some high profile personalities had come together to celebrate the life of the fallen rapper.
The memorial service was organised by Hip-Hop artists most of whom Dice worked with in their projects in the early 2000s.
Dice, also known as Ralefatshe in music circles was found dead after allegedly committing suicide. Seabelo Modibe, who was the master of ceremony on the day, announced that they have reached a verbal agreement with GIMC founder, Fish Pabalinga who was also present at the memorial service.
Along with honouring Dice, the two have agreed to also remember Steez, who died in a car crash. “I have discussed this with the GIMC organiser, Fish Pabalinga that we want to honour these guys during next year’s musical festival.
“We agreed that he would give us an hour or more as hip-hop artists to get on stage to honour Dice and Steez. We want to come together and make that part of history,” Modibe said.
He added that by so doing, they would make sure that the legacy of both fallen artists would live on. He said that there are also plans to release an album with some of the material that Dice recorded, which never saw the light of day. Although he is regarded by many as one of the finest rappers this country has ever had, Dice never released an album.
He, however, featured in many of the country’s popular Hip- Hop hits, particularly back in the day in projects such as the All Kasi Anthem. Modibe said the Hip-Hop industry could do better if they worked together and stopped fighting each other.
He said the death of the two rappers must be a lesson for all in the industry.
For his part, Pabalinga confirmed: “Indeed they approached me that they would want time in the music festival to dedicate and honour the fallen heroes and I have no problem with it. “I am in support of it and will create time for them to honour them”.
After some of the rappers went on stage to do a bit of freestyling, different speakers at the memorial service remembered Dice as a talented rapper who was full of life.
Scar who spoke of their time together during the recording of the All Kasi Anthem song said that he could see that Dice was from a loving family, as he loved and was loved by everyone that he met.
“All Kasi Anthem is still regarded as one of the greatest Hip Hop songs.
But what stood out about him during that time, as we got to know each other, was his warmth. “You could tell that even where he comes from there is so much love,” Scar said. Scar continued to say that artists have feelings that they should express more often to avoid losing their lives. Rapper Apollo D stated that Dice was his idol and hero after first meeting him when they were both teenagers.
He described Dice as a rapper who had flow and style. Some ‘old school rappers’ including Euri, HT Tautona, Touch Motswak, Konkrete, King Tapf, Jay Dot and Apollo D have since put together a tribute song for the late rapper. Even though many recognise Dice from the All Kasi Anthem as the second rapper on the track, his other famous hits include The Hassle and Back Against The Wall.
