The new FIFA administration, under Gianni Infantino, has set stringent accounting measures in a bid to curb financial maladministration. The BFA is owed more than P500, 000 by its present and past staff, including committee members.

“It is true, we are on a debt recovery process in a bid to bring back what belongs to the association. It involves a lot of people,” BFA marketing and public relations officer, Tumo Mpatane said.

“FIFA is saying you should account, you cannot write off any debt. It’s a move towards zero tolerance on non-accounting. The move is not targeted at anyone but it’s a debt recovery process,” he said.Letters reminding those who owe, will be sent out before a deadline to pay is set.

“There will be notification to pay and time will be set to pay,” Mpatane said.

FIFA requires associations to account for all transactions, including funds from other sources.

In the past, FIFA used to demand accountability on the grant Zurich gives out to associations, but that has extended to all sources of funds to promote accountability and transparency. National associations are expected to stick to approved budgets, and any variation should be accompanied by a resolution.

If there is non-compliance, the association has to account for the deviation.
