GU and Chiefs have been affected by boardroom issues

The game was extraordinary, as it had to decide the title, with The Money Machine pipping Magosi 1-0 to take the league honours.

However, nearly a decade later, the two teams meet tomorrow at the venue under contrasting fortunes. GU and Chiefs have been affected by off the field problems, and find themselves at the wrong end of the table.

Magosi, are yet to record their first win of the new season, after drawing two and losing one of their opening games.

The Kgatleng giants showed glimpses of a good team in a hard fought 3-3 draw against Extension Gunners in the league opener before log leaders, Sharps Shooting Stars hammered them 3-0. In the last league game, Magosi played to a disappointing 0-0 away draw against new comers, BR Highlanders. On the other hand, The Reds are sitting at the bottom of the log on -2 points. The team had a point from their draw against Police XI, but three points were docked for failing to pay a FIFA fine.

Like Chiefs, GU are yet to taste victory, they have lost to Gunners and Sharps before the international break. In tomorrow’s fixture, Moyagoleele will be without defender, Gaopatwe ‘Shoes’ Seosenyeng who was given a red card in their game against Gunners.  The clash between the two giants has never lacked fireworks. In the last five clashes, the two teams produced 16 goals, making it an average of 3.2 goals per game. However, the majority of the goals came from GU’s 6-2 win in the last game between the two sides. On Saturday, all eyes would be on the team’s young goal getters.

For Magosi, Unobatsha Mbaiwa will be expected to lead the front line. The striker has two goals to his name this season while GU’s young prospect Bophelo Oaitse will be responsible for getting the goals for the Reds.

The youngster has been left to carry on the responsibilities after GU’s last top goal scores Thatayaone Kgamanyane and Tumisang Orebonye left to join Chippa United and Township Rollers respectively.

In the absence of Patrick Kabamba who awaits his work permit, Oaitse may be Stephen Maposa’ preferred striker.  In other games to be played this weekend, leaders Sharps welcome Township Rollers at the National Stadium on Saturday evening while Jwaneng Galaxy will look to return to winning ways as they visit Miscellaneous at the Serowe Sports Complex.

Disciplined forces sides, Prisons XI and Police XI will battle for the three points at the Otse Stadium while Gunners welcome Orapa United at the Lobatse Sports Complex.

Winless Security Systems will take the long journey to the far north when they visit Sankoyo Bush Bucks at the Maun Sports Complex. On Sunday, BDF XI will battle for three points against Highlanders at the Lobatse Sports Complex while Black Forest play Notwane at the Molepolole Sports Complex.
