Murder accused kills again

Prosecutor Kelebonye Matsapa made an application for Oatlhotse to be remanded in custody because police investigations into the matter have just started.

“The accused was only arrested on Tuesday this week. The investigating team handling his current murder allegation has not recorded statements from potential witnesses. An autopsy of what killed the deceased has not been availed to us. We fear that if the accused is granted bail, he may interfere with our investigations,” said Matsapa.

Matsapa said Oatlhotse is facing another murder, threat to kill and unlawful wounding charges pending before the Tatitown police station.

Asked by Magistrate Ishmael Molobe if the accused is on bail other matters, Matsapa said that he was not in a position to confirm that because the investigating team that is handling Oatlhotse’s current case is currently seized with investigating the case of 18 prisoners who escaped from a prison facility last month.

Matsapa added: “The accused is not a good candidate for bail. He is a danger to society and we apply that he be remanded in custody. We are not sure if he is on bail for his matters with Tatitown police but that will be clarified after he appears in court for another mention.”

Oatlhotse told the court that he had nothing to say concerning the state’s application that he be remanded in custody.

Molobe remanded the accused in custody as per the state’s application.

The accused will appear in court on February 15 for mention.
