On the day, the Gaborone City Council in conjunction with Club Media will be hosting the third instalment of the ‘Mayor’s Marathon’, which targets to mobilise at least 5,000-plus people for participation, including companies, education institutions, churches as well as interested individuals.

Thutlwe said the main objective of the event, is amongst others, “to revive and re-ignite the city’s spark of being the ultimate tourism and investment destination as well as to bring the city’s communities together to promote good health and healthy living”.

While he said everything is on track, Thutlwe further appealed for sponsorship and more registration, adding that enough is never enough for the noble objective he has set for the marathon.

“Our objective this year is to bring the city to a standstill and give athletes and participants what they have never seen.

“All this you will agree with me, comes at a cost, hence our request for more pledges and support,” he said, further thanking all those who have already expressed interest to partner with him in the marathon.

When asked about other logistics, Thutlwe said strategic partners have already come on board, including the Botswana Athletics Association and the Botswana National Sports Commission.

“We have a joint press conference on Monday to clear all the issues to the media.”

He expressed his gratitude to companies like Choppies, Avani Hotels, APEX properties, DC tours, MOBI SPARTY, Nutickets and Duma FM and DHL amongst many others. He reiterated that registration points are at Rail Park Mall, Avani Hotel, Choppies Supermarket at Rail Park, Game City, and Westgate as well as Main Mall in front of Nando’s.
