Before handing over 31 sheets,18 blankets, 51 pillow cases, 76 towels and 10 fitted sheets, Cresta marketing manager, Segolame Mothibi noted that it was their noble intention to have notable impact of compassion on the communities they operate in. “It is against this backdrop that we have seen the need to assist BLH with this linen. It is a reality that government can no longer afford to carry the load alone and this is where organisations like us come in,” he said.

Cresta’s scope of social responsibility according to Mothibi is two-pronged. On one hand they protect the environment and on the other they commit to support Vision 2016 pillars by cooperating with government entities to address some of the pillars. They further engage, learn, respect and support the culture of communities.

“The décor and themes of our hotels are influenced by the community activities that surround us as we are of the strong belief that these communities are an important stakeholder in the success of our brand,” he further stated.

Mothibi added that he hoped the donation would bring relief to the hospital. Because they are aware that the needs of the hospital and the community were greater than the donation he promised to continue to engage with them and assist where possible.

Grateful, Hospital Advisory Committee chairperson, Gertrude Matsietsa said the donation would go a long way in improving the stay of patients  at the hospital. She further said she was happy their relationship with the hotel group was growing. Bamalete Lutheran School of Nursing Principal, R Ncube was also happy with the donation and promised they would ensure they are put to good use by being deployed where they are needed.

“When I see these sheets I think about a mother who is bleeding after giving birth and how they would be able to help. They will come in handy even for the newborn baby itself,” she said.

Cresta has over the years been assisting community-based non-profit organisations such as Masiela Trust Fund ,which has been a beneficiary to the tune of P2.5m since inception in 2001.

Kagisong Society Women’s Shelter in both Gaborone and Maun, as well as Camphill in Otse, SOS in Francistown and Tlokweng, are other beneficiaries.

“We have donated bedroom furniture and bedding to Women Against Rape shelter in Maun, donated a playground facility for kids in Mokubilo village and opened doors for students who needes training exposure from University of Botswana, Gaborone Technical College, Maun Technical College, Limkokwing University, BAC as well as donated fully furnished houses in Kalamare, Sese, Tsetsebjwe and Francistown.
