The special general meeting, which gave Boitumelo Nsunge to nod to rail back Moyagoleele on track, was called following the elapse of the elders committee’s term.

The elders’ committee had been given the responsibility of running the club for three months after the club found itself in crisis, which threatened the status of the team in the Premier League. The committee led by Oarabile Kalaben then appointed an interim executive committee whose term also came to an end on Saturday.

On Saturday, the outgoing elders committee briefed the general membership on the current status of the club and offered recommendations going forward as the club seeks to rise to the top again. Among some of the recommendations made was the establishment of a sub-committee, which should consist of professionals from different sectors. One of the elders, Judge Mookodi said the club has for the past two years found itself in some crisis.

He said some of the problems have been dealt with while others still remain and need to be dealt with going forward. “We all know the issue of Appiah (Bismark). We have managed to pay an amount close to P400, 000 following his successful appeal with FIFA),” he said. Appiah took the club to FIFA after GU terminated his contract and demanded to be paid for the remaining years on his contract.

The issue divided the general membership with others calling for the elders committee to hand over the club to former investor, Nicholas Zakhem.

Their frustration emanated from the fact that in their view, the committee was taking too long to consider Zakhem’s proposal in which he asked the club to be leased to him for a period of 15 years. In that period, he was to take care of everything including recruitment and payment of players and other staff. The elders committee on the other hand wanted Zakhem to come in as a sponsor. With the elders committee’s term coming to an end, elections for the new executive committee had to be included in the agenda on Saturday.

Boitumelo Nsunge who has been the club’s interim chairperson was given the green light to head the executive committee once again.

He was initially set to battle for the position with Mookodi who later withdrawn from the race. Mophuthing Moffat is the new president while Tamocha Lenyeletse beat Kgomotso Monageng to the position of the secretary. Onyana Mafojane is the new treasurer. The committee is said to have taken the issue of bringing an investor top priority.

The new committee is scheduled to meet and discuss Zakhem’s proposal this week. Zakhem’s return to the club is expected to put an end to the financial crisis, which has seen GU lose some of their quality players over unpaid salaries.
