The car was coming from the direction of Dukwi village according to police.

The car involved in the accident, a Toyota Hilux double cab, reportedly belongs to a construction company tasked with undertaking infrastructure development projects in the Tutume sub-district.

The four passengers are aged between 30 and 44 years, according to the police.

“From our preliminary investigations the driver of the vehicle who is also employed by the Tutume-based company lost control.  After that, it appears as if the car veered off the road before it overturned,” said Masunga station commander, Gaolathe Ngayaya in a recent interview.

Ngayaya said that there was no indication that the driver might have been intoxicated, as some have alluded. Ngayaya added that the driver did not take a breathalyser test.

The two passengers died instantly while the driver and another passenger sustained injuries.

The injured people including the driver were taken to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital (NRH).  The driver was treated for minor injuries and released while the other victim remains in hospital in a stable condition.
