She argued that she could not continue as a volunteer.

“It is indeed true that our coach has left the team. As you may be aware she has been working as a volunteer so she informed us that she felt that she could not continue with us as a volunteer any longer, so she is leaving the team,” Pheto said.

Ronaldo reportedly informed the club that she is owed P65,000. According to sources, the coach agreed to a contract with the club’s previous executive committee in 2013, stating that the club would cover her transport and work related expenses. The coach informed the current executive committee of the agreement late last year and demanded payment. However, Pheto was quick to refute that the coach quit over outstanding payments.

“I believe that the issues had nothing to do with the coach leaving us. We could not pay her the money she says she is owed. Our women’s team does not have sponsors. So we cannot hire a permanent coach for a team that does not generate funds hence why we decided we could not hire her,” he said.  Pheto also said there is no bad blood between the club and the coach as she informed them that she is keen to return anytime the financial situation improves. Efforts to get a comment from Nkutlwisang at press time were unsuccessful as her mobile phone was off.

Meanwhile, Pheto said the prevailing situation in the women’s league makes it difficult to run a competitive side. He said the women’s teams face struggles in finding sponsors with the league without a sponsor since AT&T Monnakgotla pulled out in 2012. “We help them (women’s team) with transport during match days and during the week. We also provide them with food and beverages on match days and with playing and training kits.  We sometimes lose a lot of money when we travel for match days and our opponents do not pitch for the games,” he said.

The Women’s Super League was halted indefinitely, as many teams are struggling to honour league matches.
