Mangadi explained to Arts & Culture that though she has other responsibilities as a beauty queen, she would take up the opportunity to go back to school.

This comes after it was announced that the queen would receive a scholarship with the Gaborone Universal College of Law (GUC).

Mangadi said that she was going for her Degree in Financial Management through UNISA before she was forced to drop out due to lack of funds.

“It is a great honour for me to be Miss Botswana Bikini Model queen, and I have to utilise the opportunity. It is a great opportunity for me to go back to school and complete my studies.

This has given me a new lease on life,” she said.

She said that being someone who is interested in business, attaining a level of qualification related to that would be a huge plus and boost for her future plans.  At a tender age of 14, Mangadi already knew that she was destined for great things as a model after being crowned Miss Molongwa.

However, her height has always been her let-down as she would not make the cut in most beauty pageant competitions.

Like any other young model, she aspired and drooled over one day making it and being Miss Botswana queen, but knew deep down that her short height would be a disadvantage.

Now 24-years old, Mabutsane-born did not let this bring her down as she contested in a number of beauty pageants though not so big as the one she recently won.

She stated that despite the height issue, her passion for modelling has driven her to achieve her dream.

She said that this was her main and big beauty pageant she entered and won. “I learnt about it last year and followed it throughout.

I then decided that this year I have to be there.

“I never expected to win it, but when I was announced the queen, I was shocked.  Obviously, I was very happy,” she added.

She said that the competition was very tough and being the shortest contestant amongst the 19 beauties, she never doubted herself because she also won both the Best in Sports, and Personality titles.

“I was never the favourite because there were beautiful girls, but I was confident because I got the support that I needed from the most important people in my life.”

Asked about how it felt to be the reigning Miss Botswana Bikini Model queen, Mangadi said that while the title comes with a lot of responsibilities, it is also an opportunity to assist the community.

“Already, I am thinking of my project and how I am going to assist the community. There are a number of suggestions that we are looking at which include working with charity organisations.

“I pledge to identify a charity organisation and work closely with it, spend time with the children and source donations for them,” she said.

Mangadi won the crown ahead of Pearl Emmanuel, 22, and Nonofo Nkarabang, 22, who became first and second bikini princesses respectively.
