The course, which gets underway this week, is conducted by Pieter Joubert from South Africa, Freeman Nyamukora (Zimbabwe) and Tapiwa Masunga.

Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) vice president, Oaitse Thipe told Monitor Sport that the level one training is for all coaches in schools and clubs. He said the coaches are taught about introducing tennis to children at a young age.

“It is one of the objectives of the BTA to make sure that our coaches throughout the country meet the basic requirements of coaching. They are going to be tested on the level of play, group and individual lessons.

The coaches would also be given written tests,” he said. Thipe said the course was last held in Botswana in 2011. He added that it is long overdue.

He said they are expecting 24 coaches from Francistown, Jwaneng, Serowe, Selebi-Phikwe and Gaborone.
