Galaxy’s first chance at goal came as early as the first minute when Lesego Lubinda received a through ball from Tebogo Sembowa, but the attacker skied his effort.

Eight minutes later, Sembowa provided Sesinyi with another defence splitting pass, but the latter could only hit the side netting with his effort. In the 23rd minute, Galaxy squandered yet another chance with Sesinyi failing to connect well with Setsile’s pinpoint cross.

Matebele’s first real chance at goal came in the 34th minute when Othusitse Mpharitlhe hit the cross bar from a free kick. The home team nearly took the lead two minutes to the break with Kobamelo Kebaikanye trying from outside the box but Anthony Gouws denied him with a superb save. The teams went into the break level at nil all.

Three minutes into the second half, Sesinyi got at the end of a loose ball in the box and slotted home to give the visitors the lead with the goalkeeper left wanting. Matebele tried to get back into the game but ruined a lot of chances with substitute Richard Legwaila and Obonye Marope, the main culprits. In the 70th minute, Legwaila found Marope inside the box with a splendid pass but the striker could only shoot straight into the keeper’s hands.

Six minutes later, Khumbulani Madziba skied his effort following a counter attack from the home side. The move was the last real goal-scoring attempt of the game as Galaxy take home an important away goal.

“We did not play; we could not connect two passes in the first half. We came to life in the second half after some changes unlike in the first half. Dubula (Mike Sithole) could have buried more chances, looking at how we were defending,” BDF XI coach, Nelson Setshwane said after the game. His opposite number, Mike Sithole was happy to get an away goal but rued a lot of missed chances. “We created a lot of chances but my strikers could not convert. Getting an away goal I think we can go home and prepare well. We will attack in the second leg. Attacking is the best form of defending,” he said.
