BMD gear-up for recruitment drive

BMD spokesman Sidney Pilane said yesterday that after deciding on the name of the party, they have been inundated with calls from supporters across the country who wanted to apply for membership.

The former Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) activist said that: 'This party is being formed by Barata-Phathi which as you know, was a faction of the BDP. That faction is a larger part of the BDP'. He said the new party will be identified by orange, black and white colours. The orange will be prominent.

'Our sign is a V, which signifies victory and peace,' he said. He added that their slogans include Barata, Lefatshe and Wa rona.

'When you shout 'Barata' others respond 'Lefatshe' another one is 'Botswana' and 'wa rona'. When you shout 'Botswana' you are greeted with a shout of 'Wa rona',' he explained. The BMD leader stated that they will continue with Barata-Phathi as the nickname of the new party. 'Barata-Phathi is a brand,' he stressed.
