Topollo raised the concern when addressing parents during a Kgotla meeting that was addressed by the legislator for Francistown West, Ignatius Moswaane recently.

She pleaded with parents to be always vigilant about what their children were doing.

She urged parents to do all in their power to discourage their children from being involved in immoral acts like Satanism. Topollo encouraged parents to instill a culture of believing in God in their children adding that parents should warn their children against joining ungodly cults like Satanism. She said the negative effects of drug and alcohol are well known by many people and may be catalysts that influence children to engage in bad practices like Satanism.

“Satanism is a serious problem that is already affecting our children. Most of the children become victims of Satanism and other bad practices like drug and alcohol abuse because they don’t go to places of worship like churches,” said a worried Topollo.

In her view, the recent incident in which a 17-year-old secondary school girl allegedly chopped off the head of her three-year-old neighbour at Area S is an example of what may happen if children join the Satanism cult.

Topollo advised parents to monitor any behavioural change in their children, adding that they should seek counseling as soon as they notice anything sinister about their children’s behaviour. Earlier on during the gathering, Moswaane also said that children are engaging in devilish acts that have the potential to ruin their future. He added that some of the children drink alcohol and use drugs, which influence them to engage in unethical activities.

“Parents should take their children to churches so that they can differentiate between right and wrong especially during these times when some children are associated with Satanism,” said a concerned Moswaane.

He added that rebels do not have a future but the children of God always succeed in life.

Moswaane blamed irresponsible parents who sell drugs and alcohol to children calling these kinds of parents “witches”.

He encouraged parents to be good role models to their children and strive to build a future of responsible people. Topollo and Moswaane’s suspicion about children joining the cult of Satanism in droves may after all be correct.

On Wednesday, 22-year-old Jabulani Jowa of Monarch appeared in court facing one count of common assault. According to the prosecution, Jowa was influenced by strange voices to kill and suck the blood of his seven-year-old victim because he believed that the youngster was a witch. Jowa has since been remanded in custody to allow the police to investigate the matter further.
