Mentorship programme for wedding business aspirants

The Central Wedding Expo founder, Clementine Masogo told Arts & Culture in an interview that they came up with the idea after successfully hosting an empowerment dinner for people who are oriented in the business that they promote.

“So, after the event we a had a few enquiries and as much as we promote local businesses, we thought it was best if we give people skills rather than sit and talk.

“This year, instead of sitting in that dinner platform we have decided to empower people with skills,” she continued. She said they have six mentors from six categories under wedding-inspired businesses namely décor, make up, nails, photography, fashion designing and cakes.

“The mentors are already established in these fields, so we have seen their portfolios and we trust that they can teach people what they know and share experiences,” he said.

Masogo said it is a hands-on experience, so the mentees will get to decide whether they are into this.

Masogo was quick to mention that everyone is open to apply as long as they are based in central areas like Mahalapye, Palapye, Serowe and surrounding areas.

“They should not be in school because we are trying to empower someone who doesn’t have any light, but is interested in doing something with their life. When they apply, they should tell us why they want to be in the business and what inspires them,” she highlighted.

Masogo said application letters could be dropped any time at the main kgotla in Palapye.

She said they could not use electronic mail because most people in the central areas do not have access to Internet.

She said for now they are only looking for 12 people so that each mentor has two menthes.

“At the end we have to narrow it down to six,” she said.

Masogo said on November 30, they would host an awards ceremony.

She said she believes that Batswana have talent and hopefully they could convince relevant authorities that it is not all about diamonds.

“The reality is that everyday someone is getting married. We are not looking for upmarket people,” she said.
