“We are extremely proud to have three of our properties included in this year’s Ultimate Travel Guide as collectively they showcase the diversity of our portfolio and the most unashamed (but appropriate and sustainable) luxury for their particular circumstances; offering luxury that is strongly rooted in a core cause or purpose for being”, said Wilderness Safaris CEO Keith Vincent. “Each camp provides a unique experience, yet one that reflects our common purpose of utilising high-end, authentic ecotourism to make a meaningful difference to communities and the environment”.

Harper’s Bazaar publishes its Ultimate Travel Guide annually, providing readers with a hand-picked selection of the leading accommodation establishments, chosen by the magazine’s editors and contributors who personally visit each of the properties to gain a first-hand perspective of the experiences on offer. The compilation includes the world’s best in a number of categories – ranging from the best honeymoon destinations to the friendliest family resorts.

Included in the “Going Wild” category – Toka Leya Camp was described by Harper’s Bazaar as “a peaceful retreat on the banks of the Zambezi.” The camp, which recently rebuilt its spa and gym, is situated within Zambia’s Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, which means guests can make the most of the adventurous activities offered at the nearby Victoria Falls, or simply relax and enjoy the spectacular setting and surrounding wildlife, including hippo and elephant and abundant birdlife.

North Island in Seychelles was also included in the “Going Wild” category. Having recently completed a full refurbishment and refining its food offering, the Island continues to take the guest experience to a new level and to push the boundaries of a world-class private-island experience. Editors of Harper’s Bazaar commented, “Nature has been generous with the fauna – expect to run into moorhens and giant tortoises on the sandy tracks under the forest canopies. If you snorkel or scuba dive, there are coral reefs rich in rays and little sharks and fish in all shades from metallic indigo to deep, rich yellow”.

In the “Romance” category, Kings Pool Camp was described as “one of the stars of Wilderness Safaris’ extensive Africa portfolio”. Situated in a private concession in Botswana’s Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, the camp offers a luxurious and historic safari base in the middle of Africa’s highest density of elephants. With just nine tents, Kings Pool offers an intimate experience, with activities ranging from game drives to sundowner cruises down the Linyanti River on the Queen Sylvia, a colonial-style barge.

“We are constantly seeking ways to enhance our guest offering so that we can continue to deliver life-changing experiences to our guests in line with our commitment to the 4Cs (Commerce, Community, Culture and Conservation). This endorsement further bolsters our efforts and we look forward to welcoming many more guests to our camps throughout Africa’s most remote and pristine wilderness areas”, added Vincent.

The Ultimate Travel Guide is included as a supplement in the February 2017 issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK.
