Mahalapye criminal records registry office burns

The fire that allegedly was discovered yesterday morning by the security officer on duty has burnt all files in the office including the computers.

Mahalapye police senior superintendent Modisaotsile Bonang confirmed the incident to Mmegi in a brief interview.

Bonang explained that they were alerted yesterday morning about the fire and they were unable to retrieve anything as the fire had already done extensive damage.

“We are not sure when the fire broke out, but the security officer told us he noticed smoke coming from the rooftop as he was hanging a flag in the morning. We were not able to retrieve any files as everything burnt down including the office. It’s a criminal records registry and it means all files are gone,” he said.

He explained that at the moment they do not have the extent of the damage the fire has caused and that investigations are continuing to find out the extent of the damage and the possible cause of fire.

Bonang noted that they are yet to determine whether there was foul play or if it was just an electric fault.
