BNSC chief executive officer (CEO), Falcon Sedimo told Mmegi Sport that the budget for the team is P15 million and they have not been able to raise the full amount.

He said there are discussions between BNSC and the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development.

Sedimo said the team has been busy with preparations despite challenges.  He explained that the key challenge concerns delays in releasing funds. He said the Commission has had to spend funds from other votes to provide for the needs of the team.

“Different teams have been going on camp at different times. Resources permitting, there would have been many teams in camp. Plans are underway to have a final camp before the competition,” he said. Meanwhile, tennis team coach, Phenyo Matong said preparations, to a certain degree, are going well.

“The team did not play many matches and tournaments as we wanted due to financial constraints,” he said.  He said they had set up a few tournaments but they did not take place owing to lack of funds.  Matong said that forced them to resort to local camps.  The 2018 edition will see 10 Southern African countries compete in athletics, basketball, boxing, gymnastics, judo, netball, football, swimming, tennis and volleyball.
