NED registers slight improvement in JCE results

In 2014, the North East region scooped first position countrywide with 49.6%, but dropped to 43.8% in 2015.

This year the region registered an increase of two percent to 45.1% to scoop position two countrywide becoming the second best after South East region with 47%.

NE region recorded 12.78% of candidates that were awarded grade B and the highest proportions of candidates obtaining C or better with 42.52%.

In an interview with Mmegi, the regional director for operations in the region, Galesengwe Mohube said unlike last year, the region has registered a slight improvement.

In 2015, following the drop in the JCE results; Mohube expressed worry over the huge drop and promised to look into the results school by school.

He said they visited all schools, held meetings with school leadership and teachers to establish how best they can assist them for better marks and was happy that their plan worked.

He expressed a worry that the schools that performed better in the previous year have dropped.

“Four schools, Montsamaisa, Selolwe, Mmei and Tashata JSS have declined in performance. All the schools have new school heads and we suspect that the movement of school heads could have contributed to the decline in results,” Mohube said.

He was however happy that Donga JSS and Shanganani JSS improved their pass rate to 57.6% and 50% respectively.

He said even though some schools performed badly like Zwenshambe with 31% and Matsiloje with 30% the improved results should be a sign of dedication and an encouragement for better performance next year.

He said over the years they have introduced strategies that are proving to be working.

“We have built a strong partnership between teachers and parents. We had also instilled discipline amongst students and the good behaviour is resembled in their good results.    Our aim is to score big every year and top the country,” Mohube said.

Mohube said they would continue with their plan of concentrating on each school, looking at each subject performance and offering possible support in preparing for the examinations.
