Moeng, who is awaiting his BGCSE results, told Showbiz,  his love for writing started at an early age.  He said when still at primary school he liked reading short stories and before he knew it, he saw himself writing a couple of his own short ones. However, as time passed by, the young man developed some interest in reading poems.

His love for poetry became strong when he started English literature as a subject at junior secondary school. He pointed out that his English teacher who was gifted in poetry and knew how to recite poems inspired his passion.

“I loved the way my English teacher was playing with words. That inspired me to learn more about poetry. My passion then shifted from writing short stories to writing poetry,” he said.

Moeng added that he had at the time realised that he could easily pour out his feelings, express himself and motivate others through his poems. He pointed out that most of his poems were based on true-life stories and events that happen in the environment he lives in. He also said some of his poems were based on things he had personally experienced.

“I own about 40 poems and I continue to write more. I would like to compile them into a booklet because I intend to make a living as a poetry writer,” he said.

The young poet said he wanted to leave a legacy where he would be amongst some of poetry’s greats in the likes of the renowned poets L.T Raditladi, Ntirelang Barman and Lebalerona Dumelang.

Moeng, who is currently signed with Black Africa Poets, said he was facing some challenges such as people not believing in his abilities and try to demoralise him with negative comments. He also said he did not have a manager to guide him.

One of Moeng’s poems that is well written and has most of the tools needed to make the poem even more appealing is titled, Dream. It talks about a dream of a young person who cannot wait to grow up and go enjoy life’s adventures, but as that little person grows the dream changes.

The person, who is now with old dreams wants to be young again, saying that a baby is always free from stress and can play as much as they want.

Another poem titled Poverty is a cry from an underprivileged person expressing his or her pain and sorrow caused by poverty.  It goes on to point out how politicians exploit the poor by giving them empty promises that they would improve their lives while they know very well that they would only enrich themselves. It further says once one is poor there is no escape.

The Old Man, is a poem that praises old people. It states the importance of old folks that some people more especially the youth do not appreciate and call them names such as witches and so forth. The poet goes on to say describe these senior citizens as a calabash of wisdom and history.

The young man who oozes with immense talent’s poems proves that with good management his dreams could turn into reality. His outstanding use of words, comparison, personifications and other poetry tools can attract the reader’s attention.  His poems make it easy for the reader to identify with.

Moeng is calling on the business community to help him print his poetry book so that the youth and the general public could benefit from it.
