Angara has been working as a cricket umpire since 2007, officiating in club and international matches such as Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) National League and ICC-Africa regional tournaments.

The move means that the 38-year-old Angara will have an opportunity to officiate in various cricket matches of regional and international scale.

“Being in the panel will assist me to improve my skills and  interact with other umpires around the globe. I would like to be an asset to the association, share the knowledge gained and assist my colleagues here in Botswana,” the excited Angara said.

“Given the opportunity it will be a pleasure to be part of the playing control team for tournaments held regionally and globally.”

Angara will continue handling local matches. “I now need to plan and balance my work, family and umpiring such that equal importance is given to each of these,” he said.

Angara joins 34 other umpires from across the world after the Botswana Cricket Umpires Scorers Association (BCUSA) nominated him. Angara is the BCUSA secretary.

“Having umpired in several Africa regional tournaments helped me, but most importantly the games I have umpired locally laid the firm roots.”

It is the first time that an umpire from Botswana has made an entry into such a panel. He is among five other Africans who were selected.
