This comes just a few months after former Botswana National Front Youth League (BNFYL) president, Khumoekae Richard was fired for meddling in politics while employed as the Gaborone Central Constituency administration officer.  A cellphone video recording shows Letlole addressing youth members at the Tonota Branch Youth Wing Elective Congress on January 14, 2017. Dressed in BDP regalia, Letlole is seen in the video encouraging the BDP youth to work hard in fighting for positions of power as well as attracting young people from the opposition.

Contacted for comment, Letlole hastily dismissed the allegations.

“There is no truth in that. I have long quit political activism in 2014.  Lately, I have been busy with Kgotla meetings and nothing political,” he said.

When made aware that Mmegi is in possession of a video of him addressing a political gathering, Letlole said it could have been photoshopped as people are just out to tarnish his name. “All this started when one Kabelo Mhuriro wanted me to help in his campaign.  I turned him down and he started spreading rumours that I was involved in youth election campaigns,” he said.

Mhuriro has since refuted the claims.

“I have never approached Letlole for any form of support.  He cannot even single-handedly identify me in a pool of five people.  Ask him to provide you with evidence that I asked for support from him,” he said.

Mhuriro said he was also aware that Letlole meddles in politics and is campaigning for one of the lobby groups and should stay away from politics, as he is a civil servant.

Efforts to get a comment from National Assembly Chief Public Relations officer, Caroline Bogale-Jaiyoba proved futile at the time of going to press, as she was said to be attending a day-long meeting.
