Kgomela’s contract expires at the end of the month and the BFA is reportedly not keen to renew it.

“I will assist where necessary. I will support where needed as I think we all have to multitask and support the president,” Butler said. A meeting was held between BFA officials and Butler last week to iron out the arrangement. “As you are aware, the technical director’s contract is (coming) to an end. We have asked the senior national team coach (Butler) to assist us on technical matters.

We have advertised the technical director’s post and the coach will assist until a replacement is found.

We will communicate as soon as an appointment is made,” BFA public relations officer, Tumo Mpatane said yesterday.

Butler’s own contract as coach runs until the end of March and the association is expected to offer him a new deal.

However, there would be a lot of negotiations before Butler agrees to sign on the dotted line, sources revealed. The BFA is keen to keep Butler’s wages ‘manageable’ with the Englishman earning close to P100,000 per month. The association would have to strike a balance in keeping the coach as well as ensuring his salary does not upset its already strained budget, a source close to the developments said.

“The coach is paid from the grant, which has remained at around P7 million while the coach’s earnings are around P1 million per year. We have to try and retain the coach, but at the same time see how best we manage the figures,” the source said. Butler has other offers on the table with Burkina Faso and Sudan club, Al Hilal, emerging as the latest to enquire about his services. However, the former West Ham midfielder is reportedly keen to stay on with the Zebras.
