Sesebo Matlapeng of Diacore Runners Club followed him closely. The two were separated by mini seconds with Matlapeng registering 1:08:10:5. Tholego Keitshekile came third with a time of 1:10:03. Speaking to Sport Monitor afterwards, Nthompe said he was impressed with the time that he had clocked.

“We are going towards the end of the season and fatigue is taking over, so to finish on such a time is a good thing for me. I had a bad season due to injuries,” he said. Nthompe said injuries are a result of his body getting accustomed to long distance running. He said the training programme is difficult and in some instances he ends up getting injured.

The athlete who also trains under the Gaborone Diacore said he started competing in long distance running last year. “It was a difficult race because other athletes decided to take it with a fast pace. The wind was not a hindrance because we did not face it for a long time, just for two kilometres and we changed direction.

The weather was great and the route was well marked,” Nthompe said. Sylvester Koko continued dominating the 10km category with a time of 31:05.3. Koko gave credit to the organisers, saying the marathon was well organised.

He said the route was well organised, with enough water points, enough marshals and that it started on time.

“I started dominating from the start and my body was responding well. I did what I always do. This is my preparation for Soweto marathon scheduled for next month (November 4th).

I am left with a few weeks to finalise my training,” Koko said.

Mmonyemang Masilo won the women’s 21.1km with a time of 1:29:54. Phatsimo Masilo claimed the second place with a time of 1:49:12 and Zuleikha Steinbach was third with a time of 1:51:20. Oratile Nowe claimed the women’s 10km with a time of 37:08.1 followed by Laone Moloi with a time of 37:09.8. Lame Nare from Bobonong was third with a time of 37:10.7.
